Investments in agriculture have increased tremendously. The support prices are not affordable to the farmer. In the last four years, thousands of farmers in AP have committed suicide due to failure of cultivation. However, those farmers who received compensation were nominal. CM Jagan Reddy announced in the Farmer’s Day held in Jammalamadugu on July 8, 2019 that Rs.7 lakh will be provided to each family of farmers who committed suicide due to losses in cultivation. In four years only 672 farmer families were given assistance of Rs.47 crores. 70 percent of the farmers who commit suicide are not getting help due to various reasons. Only 8.8 percent of tenant farmers have credit eligibility cards. If a tenant farmer commits suicide, compensation is provided only if he has a loan eligibility card. Due to this, thousands of tenant farmers have committed suicide and their families are not getting help.
